Michalopoulos: The Universal Grosne

Saone-et-Loire News

James Michalopoulos is a celebrated and exceptional artist based out of New Orleans. In Tournus, until July 15, James Michalopoulos, under the title "Along the Grosne", offers an exhibition of new paintings born from the most recent evolution of his indubitably honest, true and very original art. He has surpassed large figuratism, and presses into two techniques, completely different from the former, and different from each other.

In his landscapes and compositions of flowers, he revisits with genius, pointillism with points...,widely displayed, gigantic, with palate knife, grand thick colors and in some, he reinvents the abstract figurative by giving his trees the broad movement of strong wind. One of the two characteristics of this exhibition by James Michalopoulos is above all this permanent movement living in his canvas, in particular his running waters. The other, is the universality of his compositions. By exploring the shores of the Grosne, this river which crosses our region, that he knows too well having journeyed it for so long, James Michalopoulos actually gives us a universal river. His landscapes are the shores of the Grosne, but they in fact revive in us a sentiment of other, similar landscapes known by each one of us. This is what makes his exhibition such strong pictorial art of our time.
