Though James Michalopoulos first became known for his vibrant paintings, which so easily depict the musicality of his subject, he has also been sculpting for six years. His sculptures, made of steel and glass and painted with automobile paint, appear to be alive. They rise from stems and though completely solid in matter, twist and sway, perfectly capturing the movement found in nature. Smaller sculptures can be found at the Michalopoulos Gallery at 617 Bienville Street and larger pieces can be seen rising above the fence posts at the Michalopoulos Studio at 527 Elysian Fields.
